About The Position

Located in the heart of Washington, Confluence Health is situated amidst open skies, snow-capped mountains, and the lakes and rivers of the high desert, home to orchards, farms, and small communities. The organization actively supports its communities through various programs and individual efforts. This is a pool position, meaning there is no guarantee of hours. The Emergency Department Nurse Technician (EDNT) operates under the general direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse within the Emergency Department. The EDNT provides patient care by performing duties outlined in their job description and adhering to established procedures and standards of care. Key responsibilities include offering a variety of nursing-related and personal services to patients, and facilitating patient flow into and out of the Emergency Department as directed by nurses and physicians. Candidates must be a junior or senior (or equivalent) in an approved school of nursing.

Requirements

  • Nursing Technician License (NTEC) through Washington State DOH.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
  • Current BLS.
  • Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent work experience in Emergency Medicine, acute care or related field.
  • Current CNA, MA-P or MA-C.

Responsibilities

  • Transports stable patients under the direction of nursing staff.
  • Assist registered nurses in critical or unstable patient transport.
  • Maintains competency and fulfills the role as a Bedside Assistant when needed.
  • Hourly rounding or sooner on patients and documentation in EMR.
  • Check on patient’s needs, including turning & toileting.
  • Make sure patients call light is within reach.
  • Collaborate with RN about patient care.
  • Communicate patient observations to the primary RN and document in EMR.
  • Take routine vital signs as per standards and upon RN requests to include weight.
  • Assist with application of monitor lead placement, pulse oximetry and oxygen under the direction of RN.
  • Utilize bladder scanner to determine amount of urine in patient’s bladder and communicate results to the RN.
  • Completes EKGs and deliver to provider for review.
  • Document in EMR.
  • Assist with and set up for selected procedures pelvic exams, suturing, holding for blood draws, and holding for LP testing.
  • When assigned as Triage Tech, assist patients back to assigned room, undress and obtain a complete set of vital signs to include weight and ECG if indicated.
  • Notify primary RN that patient is in room.
  • Restock linens and standard supply items in all rooms.
  • Restock blanket warmer and IVF warmer, date all IVFs and rotate them to avoid outdating.
  • Check par levels of soft restraints and contact Laundry if more are needed.
  • Sets up for wound irrigation.
  • Determine need for additional food items for patients including popsicles.
  • Prepare patient rooms pre and post discharge.
  • Wipes down carts and equipment with disinfectant and places clean linen on carts.
  • Perform wound and burn care under RN discretion and supervision.
  • Dressing application using clean technique.
  • Assist patient with crutches fitting, splinting, and gait training.
  • Maintain supply of wheelchairs in Emergency Department.
  • Stay with confused patients and children, as needed and directed by the RN caring for the patient.
  • Assist with patients needing a sitter or needing to be restrained per hospital policy.
  • Provide temporary break relief for unit secretary.
  • Performs the role of the Unit Secretary as needed to cover ill calls.
  • Demonstrate compliance with Standard Precautions and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Clean and stores instruments as directed.
  • Maintains all annual training requirements.
  • Attends the crisis intervention and de-escalation course.
  • Understand principles of asepsis.
  • Understand principles of correct body mechanics and can apply these in assisting patients during transfer, lifting and ambulation.
  • Perform IV placement.
  • Perform IV removal.
  • Perform Foley placement (female/male).
  • Perform Foley removal.
  • Perform Straight catheterization (female/male).
  • Perform Nasogastric tube placement.
  • Perform Nasogastric tube removal.
  • Wear an ID “badge buddy” that alerts everyone to the level of competency validation.
  • If the ED NT also has current MA-C or CNA Certification from WA state, may also perform Point of Care testing to include: Guaiac stool specimens, urine dipstick, Glucose fingerstick.
  • If the ED NT also has current MA-C or CNA Certification from WA state, performs the QC for necessary point of care testing.
  • If the ED NT also has current MA-C or CNA Certification from WA state, assist in collection of specimens: blood, stool, urine specimens and sputum specimens.
  • Required to maintain active Basic Life Support certification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
