Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Proof of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification from an approved institution or training program preferred.
  • AEMT, EMT, or EMT-P from National Registry and/or state of practice.
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for HealthCare.
  • Workers or Basic Cardiac Life Support, American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Certificate/Licensure: Current EMT Basic, Intermediate/Advanced, or Paramedic License, EMT License Registered with Idaho State Registry and/or National Registry, Current BLS, IV Certification

  • Prehospital Ambulance and/or Emergency Department experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cares for patients with proficiency and within the scope of practice for the ED-EMT T2 Tech a. Assist Triage Nurse to make rounds in the waiting room: taking vital signs, inquire about safety, comfort, pain management, and other needs; relays this information to and remains in constant communication with the Triage and/or Charge Nurses. b. IV access and lab draws. c. Basic wound care, irrigation, and dressings. d. Documents all interventions in Cerner appropriately. e. Transports stable patients to admitting units, lab, radiology, etc.; Assists with transport of unstable patients when required. f. Understands and uses all ER equipment appropriately; EKG, cardiac and vital sign monitors, O2 delivery devices, Doppler, Capnometer, etc. g. Monitors and documents vital signs including O2 sat, pain level and temperature and communicates such with nurse, midlevel and/or physician. h. Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain or when vital signs, or intake and output are less than or greater than acceptable ranges. Demonstrates ability to communicate to the RN any observed changes in patient status and responses. i. Review patient’s paper or electronic chart for orders and treatments. Assists other staff to ensure that orders are seen and performed, and that documentation is ongoing in the patient’s record. Will especially be alert for IV, lab work, and other tasks as appropriate.
  • Assists co-workers and ancillary departments by: a. Assuring that patient care areas, triage, and waiting rooms are well stocked and clean, that equipment is in order, and needed supplies are available. Trash and linens are removed in an ongoing manner. b. Assist nurses in getting patient into gown, on the monitor (if needed), and ensures that bed rails are up and the call light is within reach and available to each patient. c. Be alert to jewelry and piercings that may need to be removed for procedures or exams or remove those that are on affected extremities. d. Communicates cares or procedures to co-workers, patients, and family. Alleviates patient fears, gains cooperation, and educates within scope of practice. e. Shares knowledge with other staff and students as appropriate. f. Assists with the orientation and education of staff and students. g. Assists CNA/Unit Secretary with cleaning rooms, stocking of supplies, linen stocking, and placing blankets in warmer, etc. Assists with department cleaning, stocking, and organization. Is able to provide basic clerical support when needed, acts as runner for lab work. h. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function in stressful situations. i. Follows all Universal Precautions and Blood-Borne Pathogen protocols as outlined by hospital policy. Initiates Isolation Precautions as appropriate for safety of patient, staff, and visitors. This may include use of isolation cart and signage or negative air flow room. j. Assist with Disaster Drill training and planning as requested by Facilities Director or Disaster Preparedness Committee. k. Maintains a professional and good working relationship with EMS pre-hospital providers from all agencies.
  • Assists in ensuring patient satisfaction by: a. Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care to patient; answers questions within scope of practice. Explains procedures and treatments to patients to relieve apprehension, verify understanding, and gain cooperation. b. Keeps patients informed of process and delays; Incorporates family and friends into the care of the patient by keeping them informed and up to date per patient request and HIPAA privacy rules. c. Have knowledge and understanding of the hospital’s patient satisfaction survey questionnaire that patients may receive.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
  • Additionally, the Emergency Department (EMT/ AEMT/ EMT-P) Triage-2 Tech will: a. Adhere to dress code; appearance is neat, clean, and within facility standards. b. Report to work on time when scheduled and completes work within designated times. c. Wear hospital identification while on duty and uses computerized punch time system correctly. d. Attend annual review and department in-services, as scheduled. Attend all mandatory staff meetings and read all monthly staff updates and meeting minutes. e. Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner. f. Conduct all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. g. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.
