Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Ability to follow safety policies, infection control protocols, and chain‑of‑command procedures.
  • Strong communication skills and reliability in completing assigned tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in patient care, emergency services, or EKG performance (not required but beneficial).

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document basic patient care procedures to support safe and efficient ED operations.
  • Accurately transcribe verbal orders, perform EKGs, and submit tracings into Tracemaster and the EMR, ensuring timely diagnostics.
  • Collect blood specimens within competency guidelines to support clinical decision‑making.
  • Transport patients safely and promptly, supporting throughput and patient flow.
  • Maintain a safe environment by identifying hazards, following infection control procedures, and completing safety event reports when needed.
  • Manage supplies, equipment, and environmental tasks—including stocking, temperature checks, and EKG cart maintenance—to ensure department readiness.
  • Communicate clearly, respectfully, and collaboratively with staff, patients, and families to enhance care quality.
  • Performs and documents basic patient care related procedures under the direct supervision of an RN.
  • Maintains competency of tasks in which the technician has been trained.
  • Transcribes verbal order for EKG and successfully performs EKG, completes the order and submits tracing to Tracemaster and the EMR.
  • Collects blood specimens within the parameters of documented competency.
  • Transports patients via stretcher or wheelchair.
  • Seeks clarification as needed to complete the assigned tasks.
  • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Reports real and potential safety hazards to the charge nurse and completes safety event report as necessary.
  • Complies with Infection Control policies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of safety/emergency policies and procedures and appropriately corrects any identified hazards.
  • Performs supply, equipment, and environmental-related activities as required.
  • Recognizes and reports problems with supply/equipment availability in a timely manner.
  • Performs and documents temperature checks and quality controls as directed.
  • Stocks and maintains EKG cart and works with I.S. regarding any Tracemaster concerns.
  • Maintains appropriate number of filled oxygen tanks.
  • Prepares equipment and instruments for cleaning by central supply.
  • Stocks supplies, to include nurse servers, cabinet drawers, and carts.
  • Cleans unit equipment including stretchers.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability through participation in the technician preceptor program and/or participation in a TriHealth or unit based committee.
  • Has met all Unit and TriHealth requirements such as annual competencies.
  • Has attended the required number of staff meetings.
  • Communicates effectively with others.
  • Shows respect to patients, families and co-workers.
  • Reports patient related information in a timely manner.
  • Reports problems in completing assignment/tasks in a timely manner to the appropriate person.
  • Documents observations and tasks performed.
  • Works in collaboration with all members of the health care team.
  • Utilizes chain of command appropriately.
