Under the direction of the System Director of Outpatient and Integrated Behavioral Health, ED Behavioral Health Social Workers will function as clinical Behavioral Health Social Workers in the Emergency Department and will conduct emergency clinical assessment of patients. Behavioral Health Social Workers will convey clinical findings and initial treatment and/or referral recommendations to the Emergency Room provider. The Behavioral Health Social Worker will collaborate with the ED team and consult with psychiatry to determine options for appropriate level of care. The Behavioral Health Social Worker will have working knowledge of insurance prior authorization, medical necessity criteria and ASAM criteria. The Behavioral Health Social Worker will have the ability to handle crisis situations in a calm and responsible manner; knowledge of psychiatric medications, community resources and alternative levels of care is required. Ability to manage complex situations with multiple variables in a fast paced environment.
