About The Position

Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, is looking for a Behavioral Resource Technician (BRT) to join our Emergency Department Team in Westfield, MA. The BRT is responsible for providing intermittent/close observation of the patient or patients they are assigned to, ensuring that the patient does nothing to harm themselves or others. The BRT must maintain a safe environment and interact with the patient, family, and staff in a caring professional manner. Responsibilities include observing up to four patients at a time, reporting any changes in the patient’s condition or behavior to the nurse immediately, and documenting every 15 minutes during their shift. The BRT is expected to prevent elopement and harm of self or others. This position requires varied shifts of either days or nights (7a-7p and 7p-7a).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • 1 year of relevant patient care experience (preferred).
  • Prefer 2 years working with behavioral health patients.
  • Experience as a direct health care provider, previous psych sitter, CNA, MA HHA or PCA.
  • CPR through American Heart Association BLS Provider required.
  • CPI required within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides age-appropriate care to patients, demonstrating knowledge of developmental stages.
  • Develops and maintains good human relations skills, introducing self by name to patients and staff.
  • Provides intermittent/close observation of patients, intervening as necessary to ensure patient safety.
  • Documents patient status every 15 minutes and communicates patient information to the RN.
  • Maintains a safe environment for the patient, identifying ligature and safety risks.
  • Understands care for specific diagnoses such as suicidal, eating disordered, drug or alcohol withdrawal.
  • Participates in competency validations, educational activities, and staff meetings.
  • Proactively takes vital signs as needed/requested.
  • Assists in stocking treatment rooms and supply carts.
  • Performs chest compressions during code blue situations as requested.
