About The Position

Special Education Paraprofessional - ECSE Preschool Program 6.50 Hours Per Day Monday -Thursday 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the assigned teacher/ancillary staff, performs duties and assumes responsibilities affecting the educational, social-emotional, and physical needs of handicapped students.

Requirements

  • Experience working with students at both the secondary and elementary level.
  • Ability to establish good public relations with students, parents, staff.
  • Availability and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Understands student needs along with ability and desire to work with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to attend to behavioral needs of students while following prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
  • Physically able to perform the duties of this position including running/walking, bending, lifting, twisting, and responding to physical needs of the students.
  • Ability to assist in the development and implementation of individualized education programs.
  • Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 60 hours of college credit or High school diploma and passed state or local test designed to demonstrate knowledge and ability in subject areas as defined by NCLB requirements (example: Work Keys) may be required for some paraprofessional positions.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to work with individuals and groups of students to support academics and behavior management.
  • Must have patience working with special needs children.
  • Ability to learn new skills, flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Works well with others, follows written and oral directions and completes assignments given.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, staff members, and departments and business contacts outside of the District.
  • Is self-directed, and works without direct supervision.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to perform duties in full compliance with district requirements and School Board Policies.
  • Ability to promote harmonious working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Possesses oral and written communication skills consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Possesses interpersonal relationship skills consistent with the duties of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Works with individuals or small groups of students on follow-up activities specified by the teacher.
  • Administers, under supervision and direction, remedial or drill activities for individuals or small groups.
  • Supervises and assists students in the classroom while teacher is working with other students in small groups or individually.
  • Complies with State Law and District policies and regulations.
  • Assists teacher with student needs; may include feeding, lifting, transferring and other learning activities
  • Assists in other physical ways as identified by the IEP.
  • Attends district workshops as directed.
  • Maintains confidentiality, unquestionable integrity.
  • Responsible to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the teacher or administrator.
