About The Position

The pilot program in International Security and Economics at Dartmouth College invites applications for an Economic Research Specialist (ERS) in the area of international economics. Sponsored by The John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding, the ERS Fellow will be based in the Department of Economics and join a research team led by Professors Emily Blanchard (Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College), and Robert C. Johnson (Department of Economics, University of Notre Dame). The position supports empirical research on global supply chains, trade, and economic security using state-of-the-art neural network-based mapping data from a leading data analytics firm. The ERS Fellow will work with department faculty supporting and conducting scholarly research in anticipation of advancing their skills and experience to prepare for the next stage of their career. Fellows are expected to contribute to all stages of research - including research design, literature searches, conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data and writing reports and papers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in economics or a closely related field, completed or expected by summer 2025.
  • Authorization to work in the United States; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to meet and maintain security clearance.
  • Strong training in microeconomics, international trade, and econometrics.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python, and comfort working with R or Stata.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in pursuing a Ph.D.
  • Experience with large datasets.
  • Background in linear algebra and multivariate calculus.

Responsibilities

  • Use SQL and Python to extract, clean, and analyze large-scale supply chain datasets.
  • Apply econometric methods using R or Stata.
  • Create visualizations and prepare internal documentation and literature reviews.
  • Coordinate with faculty and collaborators and support project logistics.
