The Department of Economics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach courses satisfying the disciplinary communication (DC) requirement for the Economics Department. The position requires that lecturers have the ability to teach writing in the discipline of at least one DC course. Currently our department offers two DC courses: Econ 197: Economics Rhetoric and Econ 104: Is there Truth in Numbers? In our DC general education courses for undergraduate economics degrees, students develop empirical analysis skills applied to real economic data by reading, analyzing, discussing, writing, providing feedback and/or presenting topics bearing on issues related to economic theory and policy. Instruction will be at the upper-division undergraduate level. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a knowledge of economics, and strong writing and communication skills. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds as well as be ready to deliver online instruction.
