About The Position

Zonda is redefining the future of housing. We are perfectly placed in the heart of the fast-growing real estate industry. We are making big bets on the future of real-estate, trailblazing a 2030 vision for the industry. Here at Zonda, you’ll be able to use your passion and curiosity to drive the next generation of real estate analysts, advisors, technologists, and marketers. Zonda is looking for a passionate Econometrician to help create, evolve and expand our team. Zonda looks for people who can grow, think, dream, and create. When you join our team, you’ll be in a unique position to make a change with every project. You’ll use your full range of skills to build great relationships and experiences and learn about the real estate industry, economics, marketing and data. You’ll be supported with the necessary tools, and you'll be working with an awesome and like-minded team. Our teams are innovative, diverse, multidisciplinary, and collaborative - all working to build the future of housing. Zonda is seeking an Econometrician to join our market-leading Economics and Data Science teams. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role designed for a "hybrid" thinker: someone with the rigorous economic intuition to develop defensible market theses and the technical "Data Science" chops to build scalable, automated production models. While many data scientists focus on point estimates and model fit, Zonda is looking for someone who prioritizes economic narrative and rate-of-change. In this role, you will be responsible for improving and enhancing our forecasting efforts, ensuring our projections are both mathematically sound and grounded in real-world housing market dynamics. This role operates in an extremely fast‑paced environment. Forecast deadlines are often short, deliverables are externally visible, and priorities can shift quickly as market conditions change or new questions emerge from leadership and clients. The ideal candidate is comfortable producing high-quality economic work under time pressure, making pragmatic tradeoffs, and iterating quickly without losing methodological discipline.

Requirements

  • The "economics first" requirement. You must have a strong foundation in Economics (Master’s or PhD preferred). You think deeply about market interactions, supply/demand elasticity, and how policy shifts ripple through the housing ecosystem.
  • Time series expertise. Advanced proficiency in time series econometrics (ARIMA, VAR, GARCH, State-Space models, etc.) is essential. You prioritize the trajectory and rate of change over point-in-time accuracy.
  • Technical execution: While you think like an economist, you code like a data scientist. You can structure, organize, and document large-scale coding projects (Python/R, SQL) to be replicable and production-ready.
  • Industry intuition. You have the ability to articulate a clear thesis. You don't just present a number; you explain the "Why" behind the forecast.
  • Production experience. Experience building models that live in a research or production environment, rather than just academic or theoretical exercises.

Responsibilities

  • Improve our core forecasts. Take ownership of improving and evolving our forecasting models across housing markets. Strengthen their logic, stability, and responsiveness to changing market conditions.
  • Build models that reflect reality. Develop and refine price, supply, and demand models that reflect how housing markets actually behave — not just what fits best statistically. Test assumptions, challenge relationships, and pressure-test scenarios.
  • Turn data into a coherent story. Connect macro drivers like interest rates, labor markets, demographics, and policy shifts to what’s happening locally. Make sure forecasts tell a consistent economic story that industry leaders can trust.
  • Create structure and repeatability. Help bring consistency to how forecasts are built and maintained. Improve documentation, automation, and model governance so our systems scale cleanly as we grow.
  • Contribute to new analytical capabilities. Partner with research and product teams to apply forecasting tools in new ways and support the development of future offerings.
