About The Position

Vegetation monitoring and plant identification at reclaimed uranium mine field sites in Central Wyoming. Duties include, but are not limited to, plant identification, soil sample collection, and accurate data tracking and entry. Intern will assist with drone (UAV) flight operations, as well as field equipment installation and maintenance, and utilize QGIS and ArcGIS software, including applications required for equipment installation and configuration. Compile, edit, and update datasets in Excel, with a strong understanding of metadata management. Weather permitting, each workday will begin in the early morning for a full day during the summer months. There will be opportunities for intermittent time off. Fieldwork will occasionally require camping, with weekends off in Laramie.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have a basic understanding of plant identification and botany.
  • Candidates must enjoy working outdoors and be willing to wear required safety equipment.
  • Student standing or recent graduate.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with the AIM (Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring) protocol and familiarity with Wyoming plant identification are highly desirable.
