Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Respiratory Therapy required
  • Respiratory Therapist [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care required
  • Critical care experience 1-2 years required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with physicians, nurses and other allied health care members.
  • Strong patient assessment skills.
  • Strong organizational skills needed to assist staff therapists in prioritizing/triaging work.
  • Demonstrates ability to motivate and direct professional and technical staff.
  • Ability to walk distances and push medical equipment weighing less than 100 lbs. may also be required to stand immobile for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Respiratory Therapy preferred
  • ELSO certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory and extracorporeal life support (ECLS) tests and procedures, as ordered, to deliver appropriate care to patients.
  • Responds to respiratory and ECLS emergencies and transports patients when moved from units for tests and procedures.
  • Prepares appropriate care plan and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy. Schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team.
  • Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy and ECLS according to the policies and procedures, including ECLS equipment.
  • Makes regular bedside rounds and administers Respiratory Care modalities to assigned patients. Modifies treatment care plan according to clinical picture and response to therapy.
  • Participates in education of students, physicians, staff, and patients/families. Clinically supervises respiratory therapy students in patient areas.
