About The Position

The ECMO Specialist position at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola involves operating and managing extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) equipment to provide critical care therapy to patients. This role requires monitoring and adjusting ECMO circuits based on physician orders, ensuring patient safety and effective treatment. The position is full-time on a night shift schedule, requiring specialized experience in ECMO therapy.

Requirements

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • One or more of the following required: Registered Nurse credentialed from the Florida Board of Nursing, Respiratory Care Practitioner credentialed from the Florida Board of Respiratory Care, or Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Florida Board of Respiratory Care, all obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Education: High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) equipment and perform ECMO therapy according to physician orders.
  • Monitor pump functioning throughout patient therapy and maintain pump integrity.
  • Monitor circuit volume and administer products, medications, and/or volumes as ordered.
  • Monitor anticoagulation, electrolyte, acid-base balance, and blood-gas composition values and adjust ECMO circuit to maintain physician's orders.
  • Generate and compile appropriate documentation and charges related to ECMO.
  • Precept new ECMO team members.
