The ECMO specialist II is responsible for all aspects of assembling, priming, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting mechanical circulatory/ECMO equipment and circuits from set-up and throughout the management period. They work in conjunction with the bedside nurse to ensure that the patient on mechanical circulatory/ECMO support has adequate oxygenation, perfusion, corrects for proper acid base balance and hemodynamic stability within ordered parameters, and maintains other parameters as ordered by the internally credentialed ECMO provider. They perform the required technical skills with efficiency, accuracy and safety while anticipating, troubleshooting, and managing crisis according to policies and procedures. The ECMO Specialist will assist ECMO Leadership in the collection/review of quality improvement initiatives, using internal and external data to benchmark with the goal of establishing best practice.
