About The Position

The position involves developing and establishing operational and strategic goals and objectives that align with national standards of care, in collaboration with the ECMO Medical Director, the ECMO Clinical Governance Committee, and the Senior Director of Respiratory Care & ECMO. The role includes overseeing strategic and operational projects related to the ECMO program, evaluating the scope of service and practice, and maintaining policies and procedures, safety and infection control plans, clinical practice guidelines, and education and quality improvement programs in accordance with regulatory standards and current professional standards. Additionally, the position provides clinical direction and assistance to subordinate staff in the administration of ECMO and serves as a consultant to medical and surgical providers. The role also involves implementing and monitoring quality assurance and performance improvement programs to ensure compliance, measure progress, and enhance clinical practices. Furthermore, it ensures that orientation and training programs promote safe and quality clinical practice and support ongoing learning. The position requires developing quality filters, audits, and case reviews, identifying trends and sentinel events, and outlining remedial actions to improve practice and reduce the potential for patient complications. The individual will also be responsible for interviewing and selecting candidates with appropriate clinical skills and professional characteristics to match patient/family and program needs, managing human resources in accordance with department standards and hospital personnel policies, serving as a department representative to various hospital-wide committees and working groups, monitoring and submitting documentation necessary to maintain BCH's designation as an ECMO Center of Excellence, directing and developing leadership and management skills by mentoring and role modeling, and delegating activities and projects to staff as appropriate and supervising their accomplishment.
