Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited diagnostic cardiac sonography program or equivalent training.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Proficiency in echocardiography equipment and PACS/EMR systems.
  • 15 hours CME relevant to Cardiac imaging over 3 year-(5 hours must be echocardiology -relevant)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an outpatient/ambulatory cardiology setting preferred
  • Experience with stress echo and contrast administration preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality 2D, M-mode, Doppler, and color flow echocardiography in accordance with ASE guidelines.
  • Perform echo and stress echo examinations following established protocols to examine heart valves, chambers and blood vessels to produce echocardiogram images
  • Conduct specialized studies as applicable (e.g., stress echo, contrast echo).
  • Obtain accurate and complete images, measurements, and hemodynamic data for cardiologist interpretation, provide images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Recognize and promptly communicate urgent or abnormal findings to the cardiology provider.
  • Apply proper patient positioning, infection-control practices, and safety protocols.
  • Perform patient intake such as history relevant to cardiac symptoms, prior testing, and risk factors.
  • Maintain exam room and equipment; perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate service/repair as needed.
  • Safely operate the ultrasound equipment including any related equipment by following established protocol.
  • Perform routine maintenance and make minor adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot and document errors or equipment malfunctions; escalate issues and concerns to Clinic Manager and/or cardiologist.
  • Ensure accurate study labeling, report preparation, and timely upload, uses good judgement when determining whether the procedure was sufficient for proper diagnosis or if additional imaging is needed.
  • Verify orders, indications, and required documentation before performing studies.
  • Communicate specific problem areas regarding any procedures by sharing thorough patient history with the reading physician to ensure a quality diagnostic examination
  • Support scheduling, patient flow, and daily operational efficiency of the echo lab.
  • Assist with quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participation in the quality improvement/analysis initiatives as related to IAC accreditation.
  • Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Can work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Provide clear explanations of procedures and ensure patient comfort throughout the study.
  • Offer a thorough explanation of the procedure being performed to the patient and obtain a thorough history.
  • Ensure any patient concerns are addressed and follow established pre-screening policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the patient's physical condition during the procedure.
  • Report patient change of status or emergencies to clinical staff, supervisor and/or cardiologist as appropriate. This includes the ability to recognize abnormal rhythms allowing immediate notification of the physician or appropriate clinical staff.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and respect in all patient interactions.
  • Always maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
