About The Position

The Hartford HealthCare Heart & Vascular Institute is seeking experienced Cardiac Sonographers to join our Non-Invasive Cardiology team at Hartford Hospital. The Hartford Hospital Echo Cardiology department has experienced significant growth over the past several years, due in part to the expansion of the Structural Heart team. We are a high volume, fast paced department which performed over 14,000 procedures last year. The cardiac sonographer uses independent judgment and systematic problem solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic echocardiograms following appropriate protocols, recognizing abnormalities, and adjusting examinations when clinically necessary. The cardiac sonographer will demonstrate competencies, including knowledge and behaviors to meet age specific patient needs. They will record images and provide appropriate documentation of examinations including proper billing to assure appropriate charging and reimbursement. Expectations include focus on patient quality, safety and patient experience. Responsibilities include transthoracic, stress echo studies, myocardial strain, 3D imaging, assisting in trans-esophageal echoes, and participating in research studies. We also support a nationally recognized Cardiology Fellowship program with 15 Cardiology Fellows. The sonographer will be responsible for assisting in the fellowship training as well as quality improvement initiatives by participating in monthly echo conferences. They will work effectively as a team member both within the department and throughout the hospital to provide quality services through communication, cooperation, and collaboration. This position offers an 8 hour rotating shift between 6:30 am – 5 pm, rotating weekends, holidays and call from 5 pm – 11 pm. They will report to the Manager of Non-invasive Cardiology and the Unit Leader.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved cardiovascular program
  • Associates Degree in Health Care.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • One to two years previous echo experience preferred in a hospital setting.
  • Experience with two-dimensional, m-mode, Doppler, TEE and stress echo required.
  • Familiarity with 3D and strain imaging.
  • Registered RDCS/CCI or eligible for registration.
  • If not registered, candidate is expected to attain registration within one year.
  • Moderate computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health related field preferred.
  • One to two years previous echo experience preferred in a hospital setting.
