About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Medical Sonographer with Echo is a registered professional primarily specializing in the utilization of Ultrasound/Echo equipment as necessary to perform echocardiogram examinations under the direction of a Radiologist and/or Hospitalist. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS: Follows ultrasound protocol according to American College of Radiology (ACR) standards and departmental and Hospital policies and procedures Follows echo protocols according to ASE standards, hospital policies and department procedures Maintains standards for ACR accreditation Positions patients and performs all required ultrasound procedures Demonstrates proper knowledge and use of varied ultrasound equipment Demonstrates knowledge of the software set up for the ultrasound unit Adequately explains the examination to the patient including that the report will be available within 24 hours Demonstrates tact and empathy in all interactions with patients Recognizes knowledge limitations and seeks assistance when indicated or needed Notifies Radiologist or Cardiologist promptly of any patient requiring immediate intervention and treatment Strives to problem solve conflicts by using proper communication channels and chain of command Demonstrate a professional working knowledge of all department equipment including PACS, Meditech, computer systems and phones Responsible for ensuring 100% accuracy when inputting exams, patient data, account numbers and physician orders into the EMR Responsible for ensuring 100% accuracy at the end of the day that the exam ordered was the exam done and proper documentation is complete including putting exam in taken status Responsible for professional working knowledge of QA/QC for ACR accredited facilities Responsible for establishing, maintaining and ordering supplies Perform their assigned duties with regard to all admitted patients, outpatients, and eligible beneficiaries regardless of underlying disease process or physical conditions. Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations utilizing the appropriate ultrasound equipment. Be responsible for the independent operation of the appropriate ultrasound equipment and for communicating examination results. Uses cognitive Sonography skills to identify, locate, evaluate, and record data as appropriate. Independently differentiates between normal and pathologic structures. Consults medical history ensuring appropriateness of examination. Schedules, coordinates, and records examination results. Prepares and maintains operational logs. Calibrates and maintains equipment, orders supplies as needed. Be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Ultrasound technician assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the sonography area and addresses problems/concerns of patient care as they arise. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as situations require to maintain Infection Control standards set by the Hospital.

Requirements

  • Be registered in ultrasound as recognized through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ADRMS).
  • Possess a minimum of one (1) years experience in ultrasound.
  • BLS certification.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of anatomy, radiation biology, radiation protections, physics and methods of exposures to obtain clearly defined films and operate equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, keyboard at 30 wpm, and experience with electronic medical record.
