Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an educational program in diagnostic sonography or at least two-year previous cardiology experience with emphasis on echocardiography required.
  • Competent in starting intravenous line within 3 months of hire.
  • Registry eligible as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer
  • Current CPR certification
  • Six months experience preferred.
  • Competent in the performance of transthoracic echocardiogram
  • Basic competence in use of personal computer and windows application
  • Effective communication with professionals and patients
  • Good time management
  • Clinical reasoning, screening and assessment skills

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Cardiac Sonography experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Patient name and room number consistently and accurately recorded on videotape at beginning of recording.
  • Patient history and complaints consistently and accurately obtained from patient or medical record prior to test procedure.
  • Establishes rapport with patient and thoroughly explains test procedure.
  • Each test view and patient condition consistently and accurately identified on videotape during recording.
  • Echo worksheet accurately completed on each patient before the end of workday that test is performed.
  • Echo logbook accurately maintained with date and times tests are performed and interpreted, as well as ordering and interpreting physicians.
  • Pre-test orders consistently placed in chart for inpatients, or explained to outpatients via telephone the day prior to testing
  • Verification of patient information. Patient name, account number and room number consistently and accurately recorded.
