VCA Animal Specialty & Emergency Center is a high volume, AAHA accredited, referral and critical care hospital located in West Los Angeles. We are currently looking for both ER and ICU Technicians to join our team. As one of LA's leading 24-hour specialty animal care centers for over 30 years, we strive to maintain a positive and supportive learning environment, keeping our medicine and techniques ahead of the curve. Our Emergency & Critical Care department provides 24/7 care to incoming critical and non-critical emergencies, transfers from referring veterinarians, and hospitalized patients from our own specialty services.

  • Providing nursing care to both stable and critical hospitalized patients
  • Triaging and stabilizing incoming emergencies
  • Providing treatment to outpatients
  • Assisting with basic anesthetic procedures
  • Maintaining a clean and stocked treatment area
  • Minimum of 3 years of current experience in veterinary medicine for ECC Technician
  • Currently in process of obtaining RVT license for ECC Technician
  • Valid CA VACSP for unlicensed veterinary assistants
  • General knowledge of veterinary medicine
  • Small animal restraint and handling skills
  • Basic and advanced veterinary nursing care skills
  • Medication administration skills
  • Phlebotomy and IV catheterization skills
  • Lab sample handling skills
  • Anesthesia prep and monitoring skills
  • Basic radiography skills
  • Triage and stabilization of emergency cases
  • Emergency experience for ECC Technician
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in veterinary medicine for ICU Technician
  • 2-3 years in emergency/specialty practice for ICU Technician
  • Advanced knowledge of veterinary emergency and critical care
  • Critical anesthesia monitoring skills
  • Experience with critical case management
  • Nasogastric tube placement
  • Urinary catheter placement
  • Central line placement
  • PICC and central line placement
  • Arterial sampling and catheterization
  • Thoracic auscultation
  • Perfusion analysis of patients
  • Basic electrolyte and blood gas analysis
  • CPR skills
  • Nursing care of patients with tracheostomies, chest tubes, abdominal drains, and feeding tubes
