About The Position

The purpose of the EC Director position is to plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills contributing to their educational and social development. This role involves comprehensive management of instructional time, student behavior, and instructional presentation. Key functions include monitoring student performance, providing constructive feedback, facilitating instruction aligned with curricular goals, and effectively interacting within the educational environment. Additionally, the director is responsible for performing assigned non-instructional duties and adhering to professional development plans.

Requirements

  • Must hold current NC licensure in EC/Special Education.
  • Degree in education or B.A / B.S degree in teaching (from accredited institutions) or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state.
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when student is participating in an inclusive activity.

Responsibilities

  • Manage instructional time by ensuring materials, supplies, and equipment are ready, starting classes promptly, getting students on task quickly, and maintaining a high level of student time-on-task.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures for administrative matters, verbal participation, student movement, and consistently monitoring and addressing inappropriate behavior while maintaining student dignity.
  • Deliver instructional presentations by reviewing previous materials, introducing lessons and objectives, speaking fluently and precisely, using understandable concepts and language, providing relevant examples and demonstrations, assigning tasks with a high success rate, asking appropriate questions, maintaining a brisk pace, making smooth transitions, clarifying assignments, and summarizing main points.
  • Monitor student performance by maintaining clear, firm, and reasonable work standards and due dates, circulating during class work to check performance, routinely using oral, written, and other work products to check student progress, and posing questions clearly and one at a time.
  • Provide instructional feedback by offering feedback on the correctness or incorrectness of in-class work, regularly providing prompt feedback on assigned out-of-class work, affirming correct oral responses appropriately, and providing sustaining feedback after incorrect or no responses through probing, repeating questions, giving clues, or allowing more time.
  • Facilitate instruction by developing instructional plans compatible with school and system-wide curricular goals, using diagnostic information to develop and revise objectives and tasks, maintaining accurate records of student performance, aligning objectives, learning strategies, assessment, and student needs at appropriate difficulty levels, and utilizing available human and material resources.
  • Interact within the educational environment by treating all students fairly and equitably, and interacting effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community.
  • Perform non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as need is perceived, adhere to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations, and follow a plan for professional development demonstrating evidence of growth.
