About The Position

The Eastside Forester (Parks Planner 3) position at the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is responsible for advancing forest health initiatives in Eastern Washington. The role involves planning, designing, and leading projects aimed at improving forest health and reducing wildfire risks on State Park lands. The incumbent will implement and update forest health plans, collaborate with local land managers, and exercise independent judgment to address complex natural resource issues. This position allows for hybrid work, with a preference for on-site presence to meet business needs.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in forestry and six years of professional experience in forest management and a valid driver's license.
  • Bachelor's degree in forestry or natural resources management and four years of professional experience in forest management and a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and coordinate forest health capital projects in eastern Washington state parks.
  • Develop treatment prescriptions for specific parks and ecosystems to support stewardship activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise consultants and contractors in preparing plans and reports.
  • Develop agency guidelines concerning prescribed fire.
  • Act as a technical liaison with partners in implementing statewide strategic plans for prescribed fire.
  • Represent the agency in public meetings and stakeholder processes.
  • Pursue funding opportunities for forest health projects.
  • Conduct on-the-ground forest health activities.
  • Maintain relationships with land and forest management entities to enhance regional forest health initiatives.
