About The Position

Vacancy is in the Early Learning Centers of the Department of Families, Children, and Youth. Under supervision, performs a wide range of supportive functions in the operation of the City's Early Learning Center including some instructional assignments of limited scope and complexity. Assists teachers by manipulating instructional or play devices, and by assembling and setting up materials to be used in the activities of the day; Assists in the conduct of controlled and free play activities for children; Assists on off-site activities outside the Early Learning Centers and by carrying on separate activities for several children apart from main group activities; Implement lesson plans as needed; Reports to the teacher about any unusual behavior or other problems observed in children; Complies with reporting requirements including maintaining relevant documentation and record keeping; Ensures positive mental, physical, and developmental outcomes; Attends meetings and trainings included but not limited to: staff meetings, parent meetings, and staff training; Assist children in daily tasks such as, removing and putting on outdoor clothing, tying shoes, getting ready for lunch and nap periods, and assisting younger children in toiletry and hygienic functions as required. Assist in serving and recording lunch and snack periods and assist in keeping rooms and equipment clean, safe, neat, and orderly; Monitoring children during in class and out of class activities such as educational instruction, play, snack, and lunch.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of work experience in child care.
  • High school diploma or GED and the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.
  • High school diploma or GED and twelve (12) credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or a closely related field.

  • Experience in supervising pre-school children.
  • Knowledge of basic health, personal hygiene, and safety precautions for children.
