The Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for providing responsive care, effective teaching, and an organized learning environment that promotes healthy development and children's skill growth aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, including children with disabilities. The Teacher must emphasize nurturing and responsive practices, interactions, and environments that support all children's engagement. They are responsible for performance expectations, child outcomes, compliance, and adherence to policies that create a safe learning environment for all children in their care. Building nurturing relationships with each child and mutually beneficial relationships with parents or guardians is essential. The Teacher works in harmony with Family Engagement Specialists, Classroom Coaches, and other specialists to support child outcomes and represents the agency professionally in the classroom and community.

  • Deliver high-quality early education and child development services by implementing Head Start Performance Standards, Early Learning Outcomes Framework, Daycare Licensing Minimum Standards, Agency Policies and Procedures, Creative Curriculum, Alabama Early Learning Guidelines, and Alabama Developmental Standards for Preschool Children.
  • Regularly communicate with parents to ensure they are well informed about their child's routines, activities, and behavior.
  • Engage in the Practice Based Coaching Model.
  • Enter time daily.
  • Review and verify all required paperwork prior to submission.
  • Monitor and assure all required paperwork is entered into the data system correctly.
  • Provide training and guidance to Teacher II.
  • Individualize with children based on their needs and interests.
  • Assess children's development and learning.
  • Conduct home visits and parent conferences as required.
  • Must have a minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) with experience working with young children.
  • AA or BS degree in Early Childhood or related field preferred.
  • Willingness to obtain an age-appropriate CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance, and safe driving record.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • $16.48 per hour for CDA holders.
  • $1457.96 bi-weekly for AA degree holders.
  • $2191.46 bi-weekly for BS/BA degree holders.
