About The Position

The Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for working in a team effort with the Teacher Assistant and other program staff to provide infants and toddlers with a safe and healthy learning environment. This role advances the physical and intellectual growth of children, supports their social and emotional development, and provides positive guidance and discipline. The teacher establishes positive relationships with families, encourages their involvement in the education of their children, and ensures a well-run purposeful program responsive to participants' needs while maintaining a commitment to professionalism.

Requirements

  • Must be 19 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • BS or BA in Early Childhood Development preferred.
  • Experience working in a pre-school environment preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Must meet all current child care employee regulations, Performance Standards, and agency regulations.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a current age appropriate CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Must be dependable, work as scheduled, and be on time.
  • Ability to communicate in a second language preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to assume primary responsibility for planning and implementing the daily program for a group of young children.
  • Ability to work well with parents of young children; infants and toddlers up to three years of age.
  • Ability to provide leadership and problem solve with other staff.
  • Ability to work with children and families from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes primary responsibility for planning and implementing the daily plans.
  • Uses the Infant/Toddler School Readiness Goals as a guide to planning individual activities for children.
  • Provides guidance and positive discipline in a safe and healthy environment.
  • Works with the Teacher Assistant, ATL, and CTL to develop lesson plans, classroom management, and procurement of needed teaching materials and supplies.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with parents.
  • Provides leadership and problem solves with staff and children.
  • Provides guidance, coaching, and encouragement to parents and children through ongoing monitoring in the classroom and daily interactions with families.
  • Builds trusting relationships with children and families.
  • Ensures that child outcome documentation in TS Gold is completed.
  • Focuses on the routines, relationships, development, and care of children.
  • Stays current with early child development through provided professional development.
  • Serves on committees as appropriate.
  • Serves as a mentor for new staff.
  • Assists at other centers if needed to maintain ratios.
  • Participates in special projects throughout the year.
  • Supports and understands the vision, mission, and values of the Partnership.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds as needed in daily activities, emergency situations, and providing care for children with special needs.
  • Ability to actively participate in a variety of activities with children and oversee children outdoors in various weather conditions.
