Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood, Child and Family Studies or Elementary Education plus one-year related work experience with preschool children; may consider associate degree (A.A.) in the same fields.
  • At least one year of related work experience with infants and toddlers.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks, physical, and TB test.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
  • Bilingual Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Arabic is highly desired; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding children and families.
  • Willingness to actively participate in agency task forces and work groups to fulfill Head Start goals.
  • Desire to stay current in early childhood education strategies through ongoing professional development.
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedule to attend program functions and accommodate parents' schedules.
  • Must have reliable transportation to facilities throughout York County as regular and timely attendance is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Embrace the vision and mission of Head Start of York County and Community Progress Council, Inc.
  • Develop and maintain a clean, safe, and positive classroom that fosters respect, active learning, and cultural responsibility.
  • Plan and prepare developmentally appropriate learning experiences that stimulate problem-solving, language acquisition, social development, and more.
  • Encourage and engage parent involvement and program volunteers in all aspects of the program.
  • Develop individual goals for children, provide ongoing assessment of progress, and facilitate transitions to Head Start or other community preschools.
  • Mentor and support assistant teachers, guiding them in planning and delivering effective learning experiences.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, other teaching staff, and community agencies to meet each child's needs.
