About The Position

Shenandoah Valley Head Start/Early Head Start is a regional preschool program serving the communities of Augusta, Bath, Highland, Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro. SVHS is a federal grant funded program with a long standing history of success. Our mission is to provide a quality preschool program that forms partnerships among families, sites, and communities. The program emphasizes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development that is age appropriate for children while encouraging lifelong learning and empowering families through parent engagement. Our Early Head Start program serves children up to age 3. The Early Head Start Family Service Advocate will serve in the Staunton, Augusta, Waynesboro areas. The Early Head Start Family Service Advocate is responsible for building relationships with families on the caseload to support implementing the family partnership process and supporting family engagement goals as part of Head Start comprehensive services model. This position provides direct family support of ongoing positive and goal oriented relationships with families enrolled in the Early Head Start program, in addition to supporting daily program operations. This position supports all components of the EHS program through consultation with the SVHS comprehensive team. The successful candidate will have: minimum of bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, family services, counseling, or related field, and experience working with families of young children. Experience collaborating with community resources and strong computer skills including online database and internet use are essential. Must have a valid VA driver’s license. Must be able to travel to family homes and other locations as needed. Bilingual skills, a plus. Qualified current or previous Head Start and Early Head Start parents are encouraged to apply. Successful completion of background checks is required upon hire, including TB test and physical exam. The position is full time, 240 days, 8 hour days.
