About The Position

The Early Education Mentor role focuses on enhancing the quality of care and early education through comprehensive training, mentoring, coaching, and assessments. This position is responsible for implementing the Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialing program and advocating for quality care within the community, emphasizing its impact on children, families, and economic development.

Requirements

  • Associate degree with a minimum of 18 credits in Early Childhood or Child Development.
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development preferred.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience working with children required.
  • Knowledge of CSEFEL Pyramid approach and Head Start performance standards.
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Principles and Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
  • Ability to obtain a New York State Trainer's Credential.
  • Reliability or inter-rater reliability in assessment tools within 18 months.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to learn various data management systems and enter data timely.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrate skills in PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Docs.
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing in various situations.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Raise the quality of care and early education through training, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Child Development Associate credentialing program.
  • Act as a resource to advocate for quality care in the community.
  • Maintain knowledge of services, regulations, and program contracts.
  • Support ongoing education for early childhood professionals through the CDA credentialing course.
  • Design individualized professional development trainings for early education settings.
  • Conduct center and home-based site observations to promote developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Plan and coordinate mentoring activities to ensure compliance with best practice standards.
  • Confer with teaching staff regarding children's behavioral or learning difficulties.
  • Facilitate reflective practice among child care providers to improve professional practice.
  • Conduct classroom visits to observe activities and provide on-site support.
  • Provide feedback and informal learning opportunities for childcare providers.
  • Support childcare providers in lesson planning based on child observations.
  • Collaborate with PD Team and other Mentor/Coach colleagues to improve practices.
  • Provide training in areas of expertise and certification.
  • Implement mentoring and coaching services with assigned caseload.
  • Maintain knowledge of current practices in early care and education.
  • Develop and deliver community trainings.
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings as required.
  • Prepare and analyze reports and data related to responsibilities.
  • Submit reports to supervisors and providers regarding site visits and observations.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and comply with the code of ethics.
  • Assist with Standards of Excellence data and Google Docs updates.
  • Develop new leads for fee-for-service opportunities.
  • Support the Summer Food Program.
  • Promote agency mission and maintain confidentiality.

Benefits

  • Regular full-time position with a consistent schedule (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
  • Hourly wage of $21.03
