About The Position

At Tutor Me Education, we are seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide personalized, one-on-one in-home tutoring to students with special needs in Inglewood, CA. The role involves helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Requirements

  • Valid teaching credential required
  • Experience working with young children with autism and nonverbal learners
  • Strong background in early foundational skills, including alphabet knowledge, phonics, sight words, colors, shapes, and numbers
  • Experience supporting early handwriting and fine motor development
  • Skilled in phonemic awareness and early literacy instruction
  • Ability to provide structured, firm, and consistent instruction while remaining warm and engaging
  • Experience managing behaviors such as frustration, screaming, and task avoidance
  • Patient, calm, and confident in setting clear expectations and boundaries
  • Skilled in using play-based, interactive, and repetitive teaching strategies

Nice To Haves

  • Early Childhood or Special Education teaching credential preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an initial tutor assessment to determine current developmental and academic levels
  • Provide individualized instruction in foundational literacy skills, including letter recognition, phonics, and sight words
  • Support early math concepts, including counting, number recognition, colors, and shapes
  • Develop early handwriting and fine motor skills through structured activities
  • Use play-based, engaging lessons while maintaining clear goals and structure
  • Implement consistent routines, repetition, and direct instruction to support learning
  • Provide firm, clear expectations and consistent redirection to maintain engagement
  • Use positive reinforcement and proactive strategies to prevent frustration and escalation
  • Support communication development through modeling and interactive engagement
  • Incorporate student interests (e.g., singing, drawing, animals, outdoor play) into lessons
  • Maintain a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment
  • Communicate regularly with caregivers regarding progress and strategies
