About The Position

SUMMARY: Responsible for planning and implementing specially designed instruction that will benefit early childhood students with special needs. (Prepare students to successfully enter kindergarten.) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. Instruct early childhood students (3-5 years of age) with special needs in their area(s) of unique need as outlined by the Evaluation Report and IEP. Plans curriculum, lessons, and uses special teaching methods to instruct students. Participates as a member of a team of professionals that screens, evaluates and determines if a student qualifies for early childhood services special education services. Ongoing evaluates/monitors student progress. Develops and maintains contact with the parents and a good working relationship with parents of early childhood special students. Evaluates student progress based on work output and observations, determines goals, objectives, and benchmarks for individual students and determines and reports entry and exit Early Childhood Outcomes according to state guidelines. Works as a team with the Speech/Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, etc. to meet the needs of our Early Childhood Students. Provides case management of students including drafting, coordinating appropriate team members and conducting annual IEP meetings to meet state and federal guidelines and timelines. Problem solves with parents and therapists if an Early Childhood student is experiencing a problem. Serves on district committees as assigned. Participates in First Steps transition meetings Participate in professional development that supports the District’ CSIP both to improve instructional practices to enhance student outcomes. Observes confidentiality regarding students and staff when communicating to others. Observes all policies, rules and regulations of the Board of Education as stated in the Board of Education policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree in Education with Early Childhood Special Education endorsement
  • Missouri Teaching certificate in Early Childhood Special Education
