About The Position

The Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children ages 2–5. This role includes planning and implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based instruction that supports early academic, social-emotional, and physical development. The Preschool Instructor supervises children at all times, maintains a structured classroom with clear routines, and promotes positive behavior through guidance and modeling. Responsibilities include observing and documenting student progress, adapting instruction to meet individual needs, and supporting early identification of developmental concerns. The teacher assists with basic care needs such as hygiene, meals, and transitions, while ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations. Strong communication with families and collaboration with staff are essential to support student success and program quality.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in early childhood education, Education, or related area preferred.
  • Possession of a Teacher Permit, or at least 12 units of Early Childhood Studies.
  • Five years of experience working with children aged 2 to 5 years old in a childcare capacity.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required within 60 days of employment.
  • Possess computer skills sufficient to provide administrative support, basic instruction and oversee online activities and computer-assisted instruction.
  • Must be able to provide instructions.
  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environments.
  • Flexibility to work hours, as program needs change.
  • Ability to enforce compliance with safety codes, rules and regulations in all department programs and activities; including mandated reporting.
  • Must be able to establish rapport with the Indian community and the public schools.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and comply with the requirements of the Tribe’s driving policy and insurance requirements.

  • Employment with Tuolumne Me-Wuk Tribal Council is contingent on pre-employment background and drug test results.
  • Employment in this role is contingent upon successful completion of a fingerprint-based background check.
  • Employment in this role is contingent upon completion of pre-employment TB screening.
  • This role requires that a Mandated Reporter Acknowledgment be signed and all required training be completed prior to working independently with children.
  • Mandated Reporters must adhere to all Tribal policies, procedures, and applicable laws regarding child safety and reporting obligations
  • Hepatitis B vaccinations will be offered at no cost where occupational exposure risk exists.
