About The Position

Do you love working with children? Join the Northbrook Park District Team as a Early Childhood Instructor. The Northbrook Park District is hiring for an Early Childhood Instructor who has a focus on sensory exploration to plan and lead programs for our infant and caregiver participants. You’ll be able to use your love of working with children to create an engaging and educational experience for both infants and their caregivers. Pay & Schedule: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour Tuesdays, 9:30am - 11:30am Opportunities for additional hours and expanded class offerings may be available

Requirements

  • A degree from a four-year college or university with coursework in early childhood education/administration and two (2) years of experience working with pre-school-aged children; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, ability, and skills.
  • A valid Illinois Vehicle operator license is desired but not required
  • Illinois Mandated Reporter Certification – Department of Children and Family Services
  • Plan, direct and conduct activities to meet stated program goals
  • Able to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public in a professional manner during stressful situations
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with children and adults
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Become CPR/AED Certified
  • Planning, leading and conducting educational programs for children
  • Hands-on experience working with children
  • Current trends in the field of early childhood education

Responsibilities

  • Professionally develops a class syllabus containing curriculum, activities and goals for an assigned class or program.
  • Determines supplies needed, assists in securing them and maintains an updated inventory.
  • Establishes operational procedures and communicates them to staff, parents and children.
  • Effectively acts as a liaison between parents and children to the Early Childhood Recreation Supervisor
  • Regularly communicates program information with parents using appropriate procedures on a daily/weekly basis or as needed.
  • Closely supervises daily participant drop-off and pick-up following established guidelines.
  • Prepares and shares a class calendar with parents and the Early Childhood Recreation Supervisor. Maintains records of students' progress throughout the program.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly worksite at all times.
  • Diligently follows and adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with internal and external customers in a positive manner.
  • Follows safe work practices.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
