About The Position

St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School is adding a second section of Pre-K3, reflecting the strength of our early childhood program and commitment to our school community. We are seeking a qualified and passionate Early Childhood (Pre-K 3) Assistant Teacher with knowledge of Reggio Emilia and Montessori philosophies, along with a deep understanding of constructivism and social-emotional learning. This position aims to create a joyful environment where children move from 'me' to 'we'. The Pre-K 3 program explores cultural identities and unique profiles of students to build self and social awareness, educating children to become empathetic and virtuous leaders. This is a 10-month, full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits starting in August 2026.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work on a team and to collaborate with students, faculty, staff and parents
  • A collaborative and inquisitive approach to teaching and learning
  • A positive attitude and the willingness to approach learning new skills in flexible and creative ways
  • At least two years as an assistant teacher
  • Bachelor’s degree required

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children by providing close supervision during all activities
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment
  • Support curriculum implementation
  • Assist in carrying out stimulating lesson plans that promote exploration, creativity, and discovery
  • Support the lead teacher in providing differentiated and individualized instruction for remediation and enrichment
  • Support the lead teacher in effective classroom management through Responsive Classroom and Progressive Discipline practices
  • Attend all required meetings and professional development opportunities as assigned by Head of Lower School
  • Participate in shared faculty responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School
  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences, back to school night, and parent meetings
  • Work cooperatively with other teachers, counselors and administrators
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, faculty and staff to foster a culture of respect and belonging
  • Prepare classroom learning materials as needed
  • Display and hang student work in classroom and on hallway bulletin boards
