About The Position

The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team and functions as a team leader or co-leader. The teacher plans and implements the curriculum and, with active participation of other members of the teaching team, works with parents and assesses the needs of individual children. This position will involve, bending, lifting at least up to 25 pounds, turning, and being on the floor with children, sweeping floors after meals and snacks.

Requirements

  • Must meet all minimum standards set by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS).
  • Be in good health and able to physically lift a child weighing less than 40 pounds.
  • Possess at least 12 college credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or a related field; OR hold an Associate’s (AA, AAS) or Bachelor’s (BA, BS) degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or equivalent experience.
  • Maintain current certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR for infants and children, and training in medication administration.
  • Obtain current health assessments upon hire and every one to two years thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Treat all children, families, and staff with dignity, respect, and professionalism, reflecting the mission and values of the Bertha Alyce Early Childhood School and ERJCC.
  • Work collaboratively in a co-teaching model with classroom partners, teaching teams, and families to provide a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Maintain strict supervision of children at all times, ensuring sight and sound supervision for infants and toddlers, with accurate attendance and documentation of required records (e.g., incident reports, meals, naps, toileting/diapering).
  • Create, maintain, and organize a safe, inviting, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that promotes physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth.
  • Participate in and document ongoing professional development, completing at least 30 clock hours annually, based on hire date, on topics such as child development, health and safety, guidance techniques, anti-bias education, family communication, and professional ethics.
  • Adhere to all applicable policies including the ERJCC Code of Personnel Practices, Confidentiality Policy, TDFPS Minimum Standards, and accreditation criteria (Texas Rising Star).
  • Attend and participate in all required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Assist in public relations events sponsored by the school and represent the school positively within the community
  • Collaboratively plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities aligned with early childhood standards and the school’s philosophy.
  • Create and post lesson plans and monthly schedules, incorporating learning objectives across domains such as art, dramatic play, language, math, motor skills, music, nutrition, outdoor play, and multicultural/anti-bias education.
  • Support the individual needs, interests, talents, and learning styles of each child, including those with special needs.
  • Assist in the preparation and organization of the learning environment, including setting up interest centers and preparing materials.
  • Engage families as partners in their child’s education through daily communication, newsletters, notes, conferences, and information boards.
  • Maintain and contribute to classroom portfolios and individual child assessment portfolios, documenting observations, work samples, and family input.
  • Support smooth transitions for children during arrivals, departures, and between activities, ensuring communication with families and staff.
  • Ensure that high-level cleaning and sanitation of the classroom and materials are maintained as required by TDFPS Minimum Standards.
  • Assist with ongoing housekeeping tasks to support a clean and healthy environment.
  • Share responsibilities equitably with co-teacher(s), clearly defining roles related to planning, supervision, and classroom management.
  • Mentor, support, and collaborate with teaching partners and assistant educators, fostering a positive team environment.
  • Discuss pertinent problems or concerns with supervisors as appropriate, seeking solutions that support the classroom and program.
  • Participate actively in professional organizations and community involvement as a representative of the ERJCC.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks assigned by the Director or administrative team.
