About The Position
The Early Childhood Education Consultant I position at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is a full-time role focused on ensuring compliance and quality in childcare programs across New York City. As a public health leader, the department has a rich history of addressing public health crises and implementing transformative health programs. The Bureau of Child Care, part of the Division of Environmental Health, is responsible for monitoring childcare services to ensure they comply with health codes and regulations. The Early Childhood Education Consultant will evaluate and assess various childcare programs, including center-based, residential, school-based, and after-school programs, to ensure they meet local, state, and federal regulations. This role involves providing consultation and technical assistance to childcare providers, helping them implement best practices in educational programming and classroom management. In addition to compliance monitoring, the consultant will serve as a resource for current trends and research in early childhood education, issue notices of violation when necessary, and make recommendations regarding childcare permits and licenses. The consultant will also investigate complaints related to licensed childcare services and represent the department at professional conferences, contributing to ongoing professional development in the field of early childhood education.
