About The Position

The Early Childhood Assistant Director at the YMCA East Branch is a full-time position focused on assisting with the management, direction, and coordination of the Early Childhood team. This role involves establishing new program activities, and assisting with recruiting, hiring, training, managing, developing, coaching, scheduling, and directing employees and volunteers. The position is largely administrative, requiring general office and computer skills. The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring a safe environment and creating positive, fun, high-quality child care programs, and ensuring compliance with accreditation, licensing, and Youngstar standards. They will also assist with budgeting, coordinating supplies, maintaining child and staff licensing files, and developing collaborative relationships with various agencies and community groups. The role requires timely responses to inquiries and complaints.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be qualified as a Lead Teacher and Center Director for programs of 50 or fewer children by Wisconsin State Licensing requirements
  • At least one year related experience in administration and staff supervision is required
  • At least one year experience in licensed child care or early childhood education as a teacher
  • Knowledge of state licensing rules and requirements required
  • Must demonstrate initiative, strong leadership skills, and have ability and experience providing guidance to staff with a variety of educational and experiential backgrounds
  • General office and computer skills are a must

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Recreation, Physical Education or a related field preferred
  • Prefer 50+ student qualification (for Center Director)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with management, direction and coordination of the Early Childhood team
  • Establish new program activities
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, managing, developing, coaching, scheduling and directing employees and volunteers as needed
  • Perform site visits to assure compliance with accreditation, licensing, Youngstar
  • Ensure safety, quality and consistency of our Early childhood program
  • Develop and maintain daily/weekly/monthly activity schedule
  • Cover open program shifts due to emergencies, vacancies, or scheduled staff vacations and ensure that all staff substitution shifts are filled and documented
  • Ensure that program lesson plans are being complete for assigned locations(s)
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process; specifically, budget(s) for Early Childhood and 4K for approval by supervisor
  • Ensure assigned programs operate within budget and follows budgeting policies and procedures
  • Assist with coordinating snack/supplies for designated programs; maintains, organizes, orders, schedules repairs, etc.
  • Maintain child files and staff licensing files for children/employees in designated programs; ensures all training, licensing and accreditation requirements are met
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with state child care licensing agency, city accreditation, school administration, parent groups, site staff and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs
  • Respond to all agency, parent, staff and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner
