About The Position

Purpose: To provide a quality early childhood program in a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment where development is enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected.

Requirements

  • Must provide High School diploma and documented experience working with young children in a formal or informal setting.
  • Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children.
  • Ability to pick up a child weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations.
  • Physical stamina
  • Ability to maintain and keep appropriate records and files.
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Possess or be willing to obtain certification in Pediatric First Aid and Personal Safety and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Nice To Haves

  • Be willing to further professional development by acquiring the Child Development Associate Credential.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing, and permits the child to grow and to explore.
  • Offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the individual and the group.
  • Maintain health and safety requirements mandated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, our licensing and governing agency.
  • Assist in the implementation of lesson plans based on Young Wonders curriculum format and expectations.
  • Interact with the children and encourage their involvement in activities.
  • Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior.
  • Use appropriate and positive discipline techniques with children based on Dr. Becky Bailey’s Conscious Discipline philosophy. Training will be provided.
  • Establish and maintain good communication with parents on a daily informal basis.
  • Assist classroom staff with meeting and maintaining a satisfactory score on the Environment Rating Scale.
  • Maintain necessary records and files.
  • Develop appropriate relationships with children of diverse backgrounds by treating all children with dignity and respect and by considering the child in relationship to his or her cultural and socio-economic background.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in service training, conferences, etc. as necessary.
  • Manage toileting needs of children including changing diapers when necessary.
  • Any other tasks or duties in which the job requires.
