About The Position

Early Childhood (3-6 year old) Assistant - Summer Montessori Camp Position Summary Sunny Hollow Montessori is seeking a nurturing, enthusiastic, and dependable Early Childhood Assistant to join our dynamic team for our Summer Montessori Camp Program. Dates of employment would be June 15-August 21, 2026, and hours would be 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This seasonal position offers a rewarding opportunity to engage with children ages 3–6 in a vibrant, hands-on learning environment rooted in Montessori principles and the joyful spirit of summer camp. Our summer camp blends creative, nature-based, and play-driven experiences with Montessori values such as independence, curiosity, respect, and community. The Assistant will work closely with lead guides and other staff to foster a warm, respectful, and enriching environment, both indoors and out.

Requirements

  • Must meet Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Rule 3 qualifications for an Assistant Teacher.

  • Ability to engage physically and energetically with children, including participation in outdoor activities.
  • Current Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain prior to the start of camp.
  • Strong communication skills, dependability, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to move easily between standing, walking, sitting on the floor, bending, and kneeling.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Stamina to actively participate in outdoor activities, nature walks, and water activities.
  • Regular exposure to child-generated messes, cleaning products, and sensory play materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with or interest in Montessori philosophy, preferred.
  • Experience in a camp or Montessori classroom environment, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively supervise and engage with children during all aspects of the camp day, including arrival and dismissal, outdoor exploration, indoor work time, time with summer camp vendors, snack and lunch, and rest or nap time.
  • Maintain a watchful, responsive presence to ensure children’s physical and emotional well-being.
  • Encourage creativity, social-emotional development, and child-led learning through art, music, nature walks, water play, and Montessori-aligned activities.
  • Reinforce prosocial behavior and conflict resolution techniques in a respectful and developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Help prepare, organize, and maintain classroom and outdoor materials.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and order of spaces throughout the day.
  • Participate in setting up and cleaning up after activities to support a smooth daily rhythm.
  • Assist with daily routines, including toileting, handwashing, sunscreen application, and transitions between parts of the day.
  • Provide gentle and consistent guidance that promotes independence and self-care.
  • Work in partnership with other faculty throughout the day.
  • Share observations and insights about children’s needs and progress.
  • Be open to feedback and supportive of a collaborative team culture.
  • Greet parents and caregivers with warmth and professionalism.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate respectful communication in all interactions.
