About The Position

The Lead Teacher is responsible for curriculum, staff performance, environment and communication in a year-round, full day 4K classroom. The person in this position is responsible for understanding and communicating the needs of children and their families, and the interrelationship between these needs and the Center. Teachers must maintain in-service and continuing education requirements as mandated by DPI, state licensing, and accreditation. The position is scheduled for full-time status. Full-time faculty, academic staff, and limited appointees in an annual-basis appointment earn 176 hours of vacation per fiscal year and are granted 176 hours (22 days) of initial entitlement sick leave available for use during the first 18 months of employment (will earn 96 hous- 12 days -of sick leave per fiscal year after the initial entitlement period). These numbers are prorated for appointment percentage. Employees will also be granted 36 hours (4.5 days) of personal holiday hours per year and nine legal paid holidays. The Children’s Learning Center in Student Affairs is required to conduct Post-Offer Pre-Employment (POPE) physical screening on all selected candidates for Early Childhood Education Teacher positions. The test involves squatting, bending, reaching lifting, carrying, etc. of varying weights to simulate the physical demands you may experience while on the job. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening.

Requirements

  • Applicants for this position must have: A bachelor's degree in education with a WI DPI license to teach kindergarten.
  • Certification in hands-on Pediatric First Aid, AED, and CPR upon two weeks of beginning appointment, and must be maintained during incumbency.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of two years documented experience teaching children 3-6 years of age.
  • Documented experience in a campus child care program.
  • Evidence of the ability to work well in a complex, team environment with both professional and student staff, with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Documented ability to apply knowledge of child development to both curriculum development and its implementation in the classroom.
  • Evidence of the ability to understand and communicate children's development and needs to families.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains the safety and physical well-being of children in a designated classroom
  • Maintains and documents effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to relay pertinent information and provide updates of child activities per established guidelines and regulations
  • Evaluates individualized and developmental educational plans for children in collaboration with other stakeholders, as needed
  • Mentors new teachers and students
  • Plans and facilitates classroom programming and schedules daily classroom activities for an early childhood education facility according to established curriculums
