WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Structural Engineer to work out of our South Jordan, UT office. Performs structural engineering work, under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, relating to the design of new and existing structures. Additional tasks may include coordinating with architects, contractors, and clients, and managing projects independently. Ensures high-quality deliverables are produced and distributed on time and in compliance with project-specific construction codes. Demonstrates leadership qualities and a passion for growing within the structural engineering profession. Your Impact Perform structural engineering work relating to the design of new concrete, concrete masonry (CMU), steel, metal stud, light-frame wood, and mass timber structures for residential, institutional, and commercial projects. Develop structural engineering solutions to facilitate the re-use of existing building structures through structural retrofitting or resiliency assessments. Incorporate advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, while also utilizing future-ready solutions with structural engineering design standards. Contribute to project coordination through remote/in-person meetings, technical sketches, BIM modeling, and work site notebooks/logs. Verify the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on securing structural soundness from loads and pressures caused by environmental or human influence. Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses. Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting. Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or problems. Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs. Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level risk mitigation activities. Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local and privately funded improvement and development projects. Complete training on assigned tasks. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
