About The Position

The Hexcel Early Career Program is a highly coveted two-year rotational program that will partner you with exceptional professionals in the industry as you engage in complex and critical projects. The program seeks out and recruits motivated college graduates who demonstrate leadership ability and academic excellence. During this two-year program, participants will have diverse assignments lasting 12 months each. The Early Career Program will help participants gain the necessary skills and knowledge through comprehensive and holistic learning experiences. Program graduates will have the technical, business, and leadership foundation to proactively and continuously make innovative contributions to the future of Hexcel in positions best suited to match their individual career goals. Hexcel is currently seeking an Early Career Program - Research Scientist for our Decatur, AL location.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, or related field.
  • Performed research with hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas: chemical reactor design, chemical process engineering, polymer physical chemistry, polymerization processes, or fiber spinning.
  • Candidates must have less than 3 years of work experience (excluding intern & co-op experience).
  • Analytical background and skills.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated leadership potential
  • Eligible candidates must be a: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, person lawfully admitted for permanent residence, temporary resident under sections 210(a) or 245(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, person admitted in refugee status, or person granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Industrial experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide insights into fundamental processes associated with polymerization and spinning processes of carbon fiber precursors
  • Develop models that describe the structure property relationship between polymer, carbon fiber precursor, and carbon fiber
  • Characterize precursor fiber with state-of-the-art polymer and fiber characterization techniques
  • Develop new precursor technologies that enhance carbon fiber properties
