About The Position

The Smurfit WestRock Early Careers E&I Intern/Co-op position offers students a hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, focusing on electrical, electronic, and instrumentation equipment. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and process improvement, preparing interns for their future careers by providing practical skills and insights into the industry.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited technical college/university program.
  • Minimum course experience as recommended per position in related field.
  • Experience dealing with basic industrial safety topics such as lockout, fall protection, confined space entry, personal protective equipment, and guarding.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, maintain, and install plant electrical, electronic, and instrumentation equipment.
  • Create electrical maintenance requests for repairs based on findings with equipment in the mill.
  • Perform maintenance tasks for equipment within the mill.
  • Work as a team with other maintenance team members.
  • Function at high levels of quality and efficiency while maintaining the highest standard of safety.
  • Follow standard work procedures and safe work practices/procedures.
  • Develop and apply skills to help increase efficiency, reliability, and productivity within manufacturing, converting, or support groups.
  • Analyze data sets to identify key insights and provide value-based solutions.
  • Identify root cause problems through troubleshooting issues to identify areas of opportunities.
  • Report project discovery findings to managers, teams, and senior leadership.
  • Serve as safety champion by understanding and enforcing department, plant or mill safety policies.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of assigned roles, complete project tasks, and implement new processes.
  • Communicate cross-functionally about technical and project findings.
  • Collaborate closely with assigned team members to complete project tasks.
