About The Position

The Early Career Fellowship at Deerfield Academy is designed for individuals interested in exploring independent school teaching. This two-year program aims to develop novice teachers through hands-on experience and mentorship, allowing them to immerse themselves in the academic and community life of the school. Fellows will have the opportunity to teach, assist with co-curricular activities, and engage in professional development, all while being supported by experienced educators.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Significant depth of knowledge and experience in an academic discipline.
• Interest in and demonstrated skill working with adolescents.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to facilitate group discussions.
• High level of patience and diplomacy.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to manage and handle highly confidential information sensitively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and basic classroom technologies.
• Demonstrated multicultural competency and commitment to inclusivity.

Responsibilities

• Teach two sections in an assigned academic department during Year 1 and three sections in Year 2.
• Assist with co-curricular activities such as varsity or sub-varsity teams, community service, and publications.
• Supervise dormitory residence and participate in family-style dining hall meals with students.
• Meet regularly with the program director and mentor teacher to discuss pedagogical techniques and curricular considerations.
