Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Environmental Engineer or Scientist in our Columbia, MD office. The position will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world situations on projects involving site characterization; landfill design and construction; earth retaining structures; deep and soft/weak foundations; dams and water containment structures; forensic investigations and litigation support; geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring; numerical analysis of stability and deformation; and geohazard / earthquake characterization / mitigation, while learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or engineering (required)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (required)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel (required)
  • Prior internship or work experience in engineering consulting (preferred)
  • At least 2 years of experience in engineering consulting or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers (preferred)
  • Advanced degree in environmental science or engineering (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with environmental due diligence (Phase I/II ESAs), environmental compliance reporting and planning such as stormwater pollution prevention plan development
  • Researching, collecting, organizing, and summarizing historic environmental documents
  • Technical writing of reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals
  • Data input and analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures
  • Fieldwork such as site visits, soil, soil vapor, and groundwater sampling, drilling and contractor oversight, as well as libraries, archives, and other records repositories for historical research
