About The Position

Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the design, development, construction, and inspecting of building enclosure projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with building technology to provide a holistic and economically viable approach to façade engineering and building image, environmental separation, energy efficiency, day lighting, indoor air quality, fire safety, thermal comfort, incoming noise abatement, and limiting the transmission of noise between floors and rooms. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, constructability, durability, safety, energy-efficiency, and comfort for building inhabitants. Your Impact Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. Assist with performing basic professional building enclosure work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits. Performs routine building enclosure functions and provides entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper construction and functioning of buildings, equipment, and systems according to LEED-certified and sustainable building design standard specifications. Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing basic technical assistance on various design, construction, and integration issues relating to high-performance design, functional field testing, construction mock-up and design, laboratory testing and processes, future maintenance/repair/renewal, healthy building support, and strategies for zero carbon, portfolio sustainability, and green building certification. Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports. Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work. Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, studies and surveys, and construction. Complete training on assigned tasks. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Science, Construction Management, or closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience in discipline.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with building materials and construction processes for design, construction, and/or repair of building enclosures, façades, waterproofing, cladding systems, roofs, parking structure, noise abatement, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Familiarity with third-party green building rating systems (LEED, Passive House, LBC, WELL, or related).
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit, WUFI, THERM, energy modeling).
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
