About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Early Career Chemical Engineer for our Indianapolis, IN office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges. Take part in providing local technical assistance for the design and development of processes, infrastructure, and operating strategies that reduce the volume and toxicity of pollutants allowed to enter the air, waterways, and soil; significantly reducing the negative environmental impact of industrial facilities, power plants, and transportation systems; and allowing greater reuse of post-consumer and post-industrial waste streams; and supporting design, construction, and operations for pumping and pipeline facilities. Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with process and concepts for reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
  • Familiarity with relevant engineering laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and compile data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for chemical analysis and impact.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.
  • Assist with performing basic professional chemical engineering work relating to air emission sources, greenhouse gas, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, pipelines, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources, existing site conditions, water resources, building transportation channels, and power plants.
  • Assist with supporting operation of pump stations, plant process piping, transmission pipelines, flare stacks, and other surface infrastructure associated with underground storage facilities.
  • Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site, providing entry-level technical assistance on various environmental, design, and construction issues.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, statistical documentation, and logbooks.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
