The EAP Counselor at Mayo Clinic is responsible for providing assessment and counseling services to clients facing personal, emotional, and work-related challenges. This role emphasizes the establishment of a therapeutic relationship with clients, utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies and expertise in mental health to facilitate short-term problem resolution. The counselor will also engage in organizational behavioral consultations to enhance workplace culture and performance, offering training and presentations to management and workgroups.

  • Provides assessment and counseling for clients with personal, emotional health and/or work-related concerns.
  • Utilizes mental health expertise to provide short-term problem resolution and educational guidance services.
  • Establishes a healing, safe, and therapeutic relationship with clients.
  • Employs active communication techniques to demonstrate understanding and empathy for clients' thoughts and feelings.
  • Utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies in counseling sessions.
  • Develops action plans based on clinical impressions and presenting issues.
  • Conducts organizational behavioral consultations regarding employee and workgroup relational concerns.
  • Follows up with clients and management regarding service outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Provides management consultations and workgroup assessments to address team effectiveness and leadership techniques.
  • Delivers program orientation sessions and life seminars on various topics such as communication, healthy relationships, and stress management.
  • Masters degree in psychology, social work, counselor education, or related field.
  • Two years post-graduate experience providing short-term therapy/counsel in a mental health facility.
  • Experience with a full range of normal life development client issues/concerns.
  • Experience with a full range of psychological disorders.
  • Strong speaking and educational training skills.
  • Experience working in an internal employee assistance program is highly desirable.
  • Ability to provide expertise in organizational behavior consultations to HR and leadership.
  • Licensure as LP, LCSW, LPC, or LPCC is preferred.
