SEASPAR (the South East Association for Special Parks And Recreation) is a special recreation association providing year-round recreational programs and services to residents with disabilities in the following communities in Illinois: Brookfield, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Indian Head Park, La Grange, La Grange Park, Lemont, Lisle, Western Springs, Westmont, Willowbrook, and Woodridge. SEASPAR offers year-round programming for all ages and all disabilities, including: weekly social, artistic, cultural, and fitness programs; special events and trips; Special Olympics training; adapted sports; multi-sensory rooms; and much more! SEASPAR is currently seeking an energetic, creative, and responsible candidate for our EAGLES Site Director - Day Program position, which is responsible for leading the EAGLES Adult Day Program at SEASPAR's Brookfield site at the Brookfield Municipal Building. The EAGLES Adult Day Program is designed for adults ages 18 to 50 years of age with developmental disabilities who reside in any of the 13 communities SEASPAR serves.

Requirements

  • The EAGLES Site Director should hold a high school diploma; college degree preferred.
  • Two years of direct experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Have CPR/First Aid certifications or be able to obtain them within six months.
  • 21 years of age or older and able to perform the job functions independently of others.
  • Available to commit to working Monday-Friday approximately 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. year-round with designated holiday breaks.
  • The EAGLES Site Director must be an Illinois licensed driver, provide and insure their own car, and use their own car for SEASPAR business; pass the pre-placement physical and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Adult Day Program Manager in program planning, lesson plans, implementation of activities, and purchasing supplies.
  • Lead the program daily, providing a safe learning environment for the participants and staff year-round.
  • Successfully work and communicate with full-time staff, EAGLES Support Staff, volunteers, parents, community partners, member entity staff, and individuals with special needs.
  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities to EAGLES Support Staff and volunteers.
  • Discuss any concerns or issues with the Adult Day Program Manager.
  • Create weekly lesson plans which include appropriate activities, contacts, and timelines.
  • Take daily/weekly attendance of staff and participants. Supervise and participate in all planned activities.
  • Drive 14-passenger accessible van for community outings.
  • Attend Site Director meetings.
  • Know the physical, mental, and medical limitations of all participants; be prepared to provide appropriate attention to all participants in all situations.
  • Ensure safety factors related to program and participant needs.
  • Know and use proper disciplinary techniques; provide behavior management when necessary.
  • Be available to listen to parental concerns and answer questions on behalf of SEASPAR or refer questions to administrative staff.
  • Ensure that the facility/program site as well as any equipment is properly maintained.
  • Ensure regular and predictable on-site attendance.
  • Read, understand, and abide by all SEASPAR policies and procedures.
  • As needed, provide support to other SEASPAR programs or events as assigned. Duties may include driving, participant supervision, and serving in a support-staff capacity, depending on program needs.
  • Motivate staff and participants to initiate success.
  • Be flexible to change when considering their needs.
  • Act as an advocate for participants when necessary.
  • Provide behavior management when necessary.
  • Be dependable and punctual.
  • Encourage participation and development of friendships with other participants in the program.
  • Gather, load, transport, and set up equipment as necessary.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
