CGAP works at the frontier of inclusive finance to test solutions, spark innovation, generate evidence, and share insights. The Unit also manages Corporate Partners and Strategic Partners. Among other areas of responsibility, the Unit focuses on: • Fundraising to support CGAP’s strategy and operations • Brokering and monitoring interactions on themes in inclusive finance between CGAP technical teams and member counterparts, as well as between multiple members and partners • Gathering, analyzing and disseminating funder/partner and market intelligence at the levels of individual organizations, specific geographies, and specific topics to inform CGAP’s strategic relevance within the ecosystem it serves • Reporting on member engagements and satisfaction for internal and external audiences • Liaising with all regional leads based in Nairobi, Bangkok and Bogota to gather regional intel and drive engagement in the regions Job Duties and Responsibilities CGAP is seeking an Extended Term Consultant-Partnerships Specialist with demonstrated knowledge and expertise in network cultivation with senior leaders, fundraising, relationship management, partnership development, project development and management, and exposure to multiple sectors relevant to CGAP’s current strategy. The ET Consultant-Partnerships Specialist will help manage and strengthen CGAP's member relations, develop new strategic partnerships, and contribute to securing funding to sustain and deliver CGAP’s strategy and operations. This assignment will contribute to CGAP’s Partnerships Unit and CGAP’s overall success. The position requires a versatile professional with capability to speak in technical terms in the areas where CGAP is expanding (e.g., open finance, blended finance, food security and agriculture, health, climate) and who has capacity to contribute to strategic planning, share constructive reflections, and advise on team infrastructure and working models to support donor relations and engagement that are valued and sustained over time. The ET Consultant will work with CGAP’s Partnerships Unit on a suite of tasks related to foundations’ and other prospects’ engagement strategies and relationship management, expansion of member constituencies, market intelligence, partnership model design and optimization, growth and expansion strategy, and internal and external relationship building and visibility. These efforts will support ongoing engagement, prospecting, governance and fundraising efforts for CGAP’s current and new strategic cycles. This includes executing fundraising strategies and leveraging donor and market intelligence to develop new partnerships for greater impact. Direct knowledge of CGAP members and exposure to how the different public and private donors fund and contribute to the financial inclusion industry is essential. The ability to absorb donor and investor perspectives as well as intel on the latest trends and opportunities, and link those to CGAP’s mandate and workplan, is also essential. Strong expertise in and knowledge of the financial services industry is required; knowledge of the financial inclusion industry is preferred. The position will report to CGAP Partnerships Lead and will be an active member of CGAP’s Partnerships Unit Team.

Requirements

A Master’s degree in Law, Business, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, Public Policy or another relevant topic,
At least (5) years of relevant professional experience in relationship and client management, partnership development, fundraising, and/or strategy development.
Demonstrated understanding of one or more technical areas, relevant to CGAP VII Strategy.
Experience with both public and private donors and funders required.
Strong experience with relationship management and partnership development, including linking stakeholder perspectives, market intelligence, and strategic mandates to develop plans and increase impact with a deep sense of strategy, including ability to conceptualize, prioritize and be selective.
Knowledge of CGAP members and strong understanding of how the different public and private donors fund and contribute to the financial inclusion industry.
Demonstrated ability to build strong, trusted client relationships independently
Excellent writing and oral communication skills, including the ability to present to external audiences.
Proven experience in dealing, both at technical level and at a more senior/strategic level, with external constituencies, including experience acting as a strategic advisor to clients and senior leaders as well as facilitating development of new solutions and/or strategies.
Demonstrated understanding of the international development funding and impact investing landscape, its current state, stakeholders and impact, and/or funders entering this space.
Demonstrated ability to function as a team player in a multicultural environment, and experience in managing complex teams across different time zones and cultures.
Soft diplomacy and influencing skills: talented at navigating among teams with varied priorities and agendas, evaluating what is in the best interests of the wider CGAP and corralling parties toward a collective outcome.
Fluent in English.

Responsibilities

Fundraising and pipeline development: Assist the Partnership Unit’s end-to-end fundraising efforts from contact development to agreements, to support delivery of CGAP’s strategy and workplan:
Sourcing and participating in prospecting meetings to establish advocates for potential CGAP membership or partnership
Attending external events, seminars, working groups, and convenings to secure connections for potential fundraising and technical collaboration and maintain relations with existing members for future funding opportunities
Collaborating with technical teams on request, helping to bridge between technical teams, members and prospects, including developing and improving articulation of the case for partnership and preparing proposals
Leading strategy and design of allotted CGAP “big bet” proposals, managing the pipeline of potential funders, collaboration with internal technical leads, and drafting proposals
Maintaining an initial pipeline of prospects for the foundations constituency, conducting outreach and bringing value where appropriate with a view for securing membership and funding.
Relationship management: Support Partnerships Unit Lead in relationship cultivation, intelligence collection, internal and external consultations, and technical engagements to recruit and manage foundation members and prospects.
Managing and strengthening two-way relationships
Conducting research on prospective foundation partners
Supporting continuous review and adjustment of the engagement model for impact at scale across each partner type
Creating and updating individual engagement plans for each partner (led by the Unit)
Participating in strategy and preparation for CEO and senior management planning and engagement meetings
Updating relevant information in CGAP’s MIS system and other IT systems, used by the Unit, including updates on interactions with members and new contacts
Measuring, documenting and communicating the impact of the partnerships.
Contribution to Partnerships Unit Strategic Planning: Actively contribute to the design and testing of a new operational and/or strategic framework for partnership development, especially with the foundations.
Actively contributing to the team’s strategic planning periods and decision-making milestones
Helping facilitate cohesion and strategic capacity for the RM function, including reviewing and recommending updates to the definition of the RM function
Developing pitches, proposals, in collaboration with CGAP colleagues in various formats
Articulating the case and the pre-requisites for a possible expansion of partnerships to include new types of prospects on request.
