About The Position

The eDiscovery Analyst at the University of Southern California (USC) plays a crucial role within the Security Operations team of the Office of the CISO. This position involves hands-on work in searching, preserving, and collecting electronically stored data across various university repositories. The analyst serves as a technical resource for systems used in litigation and compliance matters, ensuring data is managed effectively and in accordance with legal requirements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in electronic discovery (eDiscovery).
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of eDiscovery data management systems and expertise working with e-discovery tools (e.g., Relativity, EnCase, Axiom, NUIX).
  • Experience working and communicating with legal staff.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a high level of discretion for dealing with sensitive, confidential information.
  • Experience with forensic collections.
  • Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to teach/train others.

Nice To Haves

  • 4 or more years of experience in data processing and analytics.
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Certified E-Discovery Specialist, Relativity Certified Administrator, or other relevant certifications.
  • Working knowledge of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) and regular expressions (regex) for building custom queries.
  • Experience with scripting (e.g., SQL, PERL, Python).

Responsibilities

  • Support e-discovery activities around data collection, extraction, and preservation management, assisting the Office of General Counsel (OGC) as required for data capture requests.
  • Issue, track, release, and manage litigation holds for data retention as directed by OGC.
  • Search for, identify, process, collect, correlate, and produce data utilizing e-discovery software tools.
  • Author and coordinate status reports and documentation supporting the e-discovery program.
  • Ensure proper data handling and preservation policies, procedures, and operational requirements are followed while aligning with regulatory and compliance needs.
  • Liaise with relevant internal/external stakeholders as required.
  • Act as custodian for all e-discovery data, ensuring it is preserved in accordance with all legal requirements.
  • Maintain e-discovery tool data map locations to ensure all in-scope systems are covered, discoverable, and accessible.
  • Manage, maintain, audit, and track access to all e-discovery tools.
  • Stay current with changes in legal, regulatory, and technology environments that may affect operations.
