About The Position

The Emergency Room Tech assists in the provision of patient care in accordance with State and Federal guidelines under the director of a licensed nursing personnel, P.A. and/or physician personnel. The role involves performing various tasks such as EKGs, phlebotomy, vital signs, and pain scale assessments, as well as placing splints and applying dressings. The technician also assists in the application of restraints, transports patients, documents in electronic medical records, and provides patient education. Participation in various teams and stocking supplies are also part of the responsibilities, all while focusing on patient satisfaction and adhering to the Planetree philosophy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma, GED or equivalent required
  • EMT-B certification OR EMT-B certification in progress OR one + years as ED technician in similar setting and/or third- or fourth-year nursing student required with EMT-B certification
  • Experience in hospital or medical setting preferred
  • BLS required

Responsibilities

  • Performs EKGs
  • Performs phlebotomy
  • Performs vital signs and pain scale assessments
  • Places splints
  • Removes and applies simple dressings
  • Assists in applications of restraints as directed by physicians and registered nurses
  • Transports patients to CT, OR, and floors
  • Documents appropriately in electronic medical record
  • Provides patient education as directed by RN
  • Participates as a member of PAMI team and Trauma team
  • Participates as a member of the Medic Alert team throughout the hospital
  • Stocks patient rooms, pyxis machines, and supply carts as necessary
  • Assists in procedures under the direction of MDs and RNs
  • Completes temperature logs as requested
  • Participates in education and training of new staff and students
  • Supports performance improvement and risk management activities
  • Assumes role of Patient Care Attendant as necessary and completes required PCA log
  • Performs all duties with a focus on patient and customer satisfaction
